On consideration of the totality of evidence, including circumstantial facts, purchase and use of firelighters, absence of plausible accidental ignition, timing of insurance policies in financial distress, and post-fire conduct, the court found that Rui Zeng deliberately lit six separate fires in the warehouse with a view to making a gain for himself. No plausible alternate explanation consistent with innocence was open.
