Patrick Bede O'Reilly [1986] NSWLST 1
The Committee found that the Solicitor failed to disclose the true nature of loan and mortgage transactions involving HMC, wrongfully intermingled his personal financial affairs and those of HMC with the financial affairs of his clients, and made false statements to the Law Society and the Committee. His dealings produced extensive and systematic conflicts of interest from which he and HMC benefited financially. Those findings led the Committee to conclude that he could not be regarded as a fit and proper person to continue to practise as a solicitor and that a protective order striking him off was required.
