The prisoner murdered his wife by angrily and violently beating her and inflicting serious head injuries with intent to cause serious physical harm. Although the killing was not proved to be premeditated and the intent was found to be serious physical harm rather than to kill, the offence was grave, the prisoner showed very little remorse or contrition, and there were no special circumstances justifying a non-parole period lower than the usual three quarters of the total sentence. A sentence of 18 years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 13 years and six months was imposed, backdated to 26 October 2000.
