Although the plaintiffs' request was made late, in all the circumstances it was reasonable because the only viable avenue of inquiry was the defendant, there was no prior suggestion that the defendant denied responsibility on the basis that the driver or jockey were not its employees or that the plaintiffs should look elsewhere, the limitation period was about to expire, and there was no real issue that the defendant may have relevant information or documents.
