A reasonably foreseeable risk of injury arises when a cinema seat automatically retracts and a patron, unaware of this feature, attempts to sit without confirming the seat’s position, especially in a darkened cinema. The respondent breached its duty of care by failing to provide an adequate warning, and a reasonable occupier would foresee such risk and take the simple step of displaying a warning sign. Lack of warning was causative; the appeal was allowed.
