Mr Campbell was, at most, an honorary member of the Branch and honorary members were not eligible to hold office. His casual work at Clark Rubber, Enfield did not automatically restore full membership status because the Branch Rules required recognition of that status, and in any event the work was trivial and desultory rather than a bona fide commitment to work in the retail industry. The returning officer's acceptance of his nomination was therefore invalid and constituted an irregularity in the election.
