Rule 13(c)(iii) of the Works Scheme (and equivalent Staff Scheme rule) extends to any employee over 50 who is made redundant or otherwise dismissed by the employer, including both compulsory redundancies and volunteers for redundancy, entitling them to an immediate and undiscounted pension. The term 'retires from service at the request of the employer' includes dismissal and redundancy, not limited to voluntary resignations.
