M (Care and Placement Order) [2014] EWCC B69 (Fam) (08 April 2014)
Given the mother's significant mental illness, lack of stable accommodation, and the absence of any viable alternative carers, the threshold criteria for a care order are met. Adoption is the only realistic option for A's welfare, and there is no alternative that would suffice. The court is satisfied that the making of a care order and a placement order, dispensing with the mother's consent, is necessary and proportionate to secure A's welfare throughout his life.
