The failure of the Roads Authority to maintain and repair the motor grid gate was the probable and direct cause of the cow escaping onto the B1 Road, resulting in the accident and damages suffered by G4S. There was no evidence of negligence by the drivers of G4S or WP Transport. Ms Goases was not liable as the loss was too remote due to the intervening negligence of the Roads Authority.
