The Court found that although the decrees awarded simple interest, the Applicant's computation did not properly account for the principal and interest paid by the Respondent in 2014. The Court recalculated the sums due, determining that as at 2nd January 2014, only UGX 9,900,102 remained outstanding after the Respondent's payment, not the much larger sum claimed by the Applicant. The Court applied the awarded interest rate of 24% per annum on this balance, resulting in a total outstanding amount of UGX 29,689,457 as at 31st May 2022. The Court declined to compel immediate payment, noting the Applicant had not shown the debt was covered in the government budget, and each party was ordered...
