The High Court found that at the time Civil Suit No. 43 of 2002 was filed and determined, the Magistrate's Court at Kiboga lacked jurisdiction over land matters because District Land Tribunals had already commenced operations. As jurisdiction is a statutory prerequisite, all proceedings, judgments, and executions arising from the Magistrate's Court in this matter were a nullity. The respondents, having executed the judgment and sold 422 cows based on an invalid court order, were jointly and severally liable to compensate the applicants for the value of the cows at the rate established in the warrants of execution (UGX 180,000 per cow), totaling UGX 75,960,000.
