The 1st defendant made a mala fide report to the police and directly caused the plaintiff’s arrest and detention. The 2nd defendant (Attorney General) is vicariously liable for the actions of the police. Both defendants failed to justify the imprisonment. The plaintiff is entitled to damages for false imprisonment, but not to special damages or a written apology.
