The employer is vicariously liable for the torts committed by its employee in the course of employment, even if the employment was obtained by fraud. The trial court's assessment of damages will not be disturbed unless it is manifestly unreasonable or based on a wrong principle. The only error found was in the quantum for lost maize, which was corrected on appeal.
