Ratio Decidendi

Interest on the principal sum is to be calculated at the average short-term deposit rate from the date of filing the complaint up to the date of judgment of the Industrial Relations Court, and thereafter, interest on the judgment debt (principal plus pre-judgment interest) is to be calculated at the current lending rate as determined by the Bank of Zambia until full settlement. Money paid into court does not attract further interest from the date of payment into court.
