The plaintiff was falsely imprisoned on both 5th November 1966 and 9th March 1967, as he was unlawfully detained and deported without proper legal process. The State is liable for damages for false imprisonment, including consequential loss of property and livelihood. Exemplary damages are only justified for the second incident due to oppressive conduct. The appeal is allowed and additional damages are awarded.
