The term of office of the President and the Vice President shall be five Gregorian years. They are eligible for re-election to the same offices. Each of them shall, on assuming office, take the following oath before the Supreme Council: "I swear by Almighty God that I shall be faithful to the United Arab Emirates; respect its Constitution and its laws; protect the interests of the people of the Union; and I shall discharge my duties faithfully and loyally and safeguard the independence of the Union and its territorial integrity."
