The Federal National Council consists of forty* members. The seats are allocated to the member Emirates as follows: Abu Dhabi - 8 seats Dubai - 8 seats Sharjah - 6 seats Ajman - 4 seats Umm Al-Quwain - 4 seats Al Fujairah - 4 seats Ras Al-Khaimah - 6 seats * The number of the members of the Council was increased by the Decision of the Federal Supreme Council No. (3) of 1972 after Ras Al-Khaimah Emirate joined the UAE. The previous number was 34 members. Six seats were allocated to Ras Al-Khaimah.
