Article 56: Upon his/her election, the President of the Republic shall take the following constitutional oath of office: “I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that I will defend the principles of the Revolution of the 20th of May and to ensure the execution of the Constitution of the Republic and to abide by the latter and to be its faithful guardian; to invest all my energies to concretise the will and aspirations of our people to freedom and justice; to protect the rights and liberties of all citizens; to ensure the attainment of independence of the country and preserve its integrity and territorial unity; to work for the development and progress of society, and to promote its noble values and traditions. God is my witness”.
