25. QUALIFICATIONS Subject to the provisions of section 26, a person shall be qualified to be appointed as a Senator if, and shall not be so qualified unless, he or she— (a) is a Commonwealth citizen who has attained the age of 21 years; (Amended by Act 17 of 1980) (b) has been ordinarily resident in Saint Lucia for a period of 5 years immediately before the date of his or her appointment; and (c) is able to speak and, unless incapacitated by blindness or other physical cause, to read the English language with sufficient proficiency to enable him or her to take an active part in the proceedings of the Senate.
