Article 4 Protection of right to life (1) No person shall be deprived of his life intentionally, except in execution of a sentence of a court following his conviction of an offence for which the penalty of deprivation of life is prescribed by law. (2) Deprivation of the life of a person is not a contravention of the provisions of clause (1) of this Article where it results from the use, to such extent and in such circumstances as is permitted by law, of such force as is reasonably justifiable in the circumstances of the case: (a) for the defence of a person from violence; (b) for the defence of public property; (c) in order to effect a lawful arrest or to prevent the escape of a person lawfully detained; or (d) for the purpose of suppressing a riot, insurrection or mutiny.
