Statute overview

About this statute

This Act sets the rules for Alberta corporate income tax, including how corporations calculate income and tax payable, pay in Canadian currency, and how the Provincial Minister administers related matters. Corporations pay Alberta corporate tax at rates that vary by taxation year; for years beginning after June 30, 2020, the rate is 8% of the amount taxable in Alberta. This provision sets several Alberta corporate tax deductions and credits, including small business, manufacturing and processing, foreign investment income, rental investment, investor tax, and capital investment rules. Corporations may claim certain tax deductions and credits, but must follow ordering, proof, and application rules. Corporations can claim the royalty tax credit only if they apply in the prescribed form within 3 years after the taxation year ends. The Provincial Minister also allocates shelter amounts in certain cases involving associated corporations.
