(Consolidated up to 116/2026) ALBERTA REGULATION 183/2005 Government Organization Act REGISTRY SERVICE CHARGES REGULATION Table of Contents 1 Definitions 2 Service charges 2.1 Road test 3 Repeal 4 Expiry 5 Coming into force Schedules Definitions 1 In this Regulation, (a) “Act” means the Government Organization Act ; (b) “agreement” means an agreement made between a registry agent and the Minister under section 3(1) of Schedule 12 to the Act; (c) “registry service” means any service included in the definition of “registry services” as set out in section 1 of Schedule 12 to the Act; (d) “service charge” means the amount charged by a registry agent for carrying out a registry service, but does not include (i) any merchant fee or charge that may be incurred through the use of a credit card or debit card, or (ii) any other fee or charge that a registry agent must collect, or is authorized to collect, in accordance with the agreement or otherwise; (e) “total fee” means the sum of the service charge and any fee prescribed in the enactment under which a registry service is carried out. AR 183/2005 s1;60/2024 Service charges 2 (1) Subject to subsections (2) and (3), a registry agent may set the service charge for carrying out a registry service for which the registry agent is authorized to carry out under an agreement. (2) The maximum service charge that a registry agent may charge for carrying out a registry service listed in Schedule 1 is the amount prescribed in Schedule 1 for the registry service. (3) The registry services listed in Schedule 2 are designated as registry services for which an individual who is 65 years of age or older and a resident of Alberta shall receive a 25% reduction from the total fee, (i) in the case of a registry service listed in Part A, in accordance with the Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation (AR 320/2002), (ii) in the case of a registry service listed in Part B, in accordance with the Identification Card Regulation (AR 221/2003), (iii) in the case of a registry service listed in Part C, in accordance with the Tariff of Fees Regulation (AR 120/2000), (iv) in the case of a registry service listed in Part D, in accordance with the Marriage Act Regulation (AR 162/2000), and (v) in the case of a registry service listed in Part E, in accordance with the Vital Statistics Ministerial Regulation (AR 106/2018). AR 183/2005 s2;60/2024 Road test 2.1 (1) In this section, “licensed driver examiner” means a licensed driver examiner as defined in the Driver Training and Driver Examination Regulation (AR 316/2002). (2) If a registry agent does not provide a licensed driver examiner to conduct a road test, the service charge payable to the registry agent for processing the road test is $28. (3) Repealed AR 123/2023 s2. (4) The service charges payable to a registry agent who provides a licensed driver examiner to conduct a road test are the service charges set by each registry agent for the following road tests: (a) repealed AR 123/2023 s2; (b) Class 5; (c) repealed AR 123/2023 s2; (d) Class 6. (e) repealed AR 123/2023 s2. AR 13/2019 s2;197/2020;123/2023 Repeal 3 The Motor Vehicle Registry Service Charges Regulation (AR 303/2002) is repealed. Expiry 4 For the purpose of ensuring that this Regulation is reviewed for ongoing relevancy and necessity, with the option that it may be repassed in its present or an amended form following a review, this Regulation expires on September 30, 2028.
