Maximum Fees for Cashing Government Cheques Order, M.R. 16/2026 The Consumer Protection Act , C.C.S.M. c. C200 Regulation 16/2026 Registered March 5, 2026 bilingual version (HTML) This order is made under section 169 of The Consumer Protection Act and is made pursuant to Order No. 26/25 of The Public Utilities Board. Maximum cheque cashing fee 1 Subject to sections 2 and 3, the maximum amount that may be charged, required or accepted as a cheque cashing fee is the lesser of (a) $10; and (b) the sum of $2 and 1% of the face value of the cheque. Exception — cheques with a hold 2 For a cheque on which a hold is placed and cash is not then provided, the cheque cashing fee must not exceed the lesser of (a) $5; and (b) the sum of $2 and 1% of the face value of the cheque. Exception — cheques used for purchase 3 No amount may be charged, required or accepted as a cheque cashing fee for a cheque cashed or negotiated with a concurrent requirement that the person purchase goods or services aggregating 10% or more of the face value of the cheque. Repeal 4 The Maximum Fees for Cashing Government Cheques Order , Manitoba Regulation 82/2007, is repealed.
