A person must not discharge whey into the environment unless it is done by an acceptable method.

E125 Regulation 90/88 R Registered January 29, 1988 bilingual version (HTML) Definitions 1 In this regulation, "acceptable method" means the total disposal of whey by one or more of the following methods: (a) disposal by processing in a dairy manufacturing plant or a whey drying plant for the dehydration of whey to produce human or animal food or food products, (b) disposal by utilization as feed for livestock or poultry, (c) disposal by application to soil in accordance with the recommendations of the Department of Agriculture, but not to exceed 100,000 pounds per acre per year, (d) disposal through a waste handling or treatment facility designed and operated to meet discharge limits as established under authority of the Act or the regulations thereunder, (e) disposal by any other method approved by the minister in writing; (« méthode acceptable ») "dairy manufacturing plant" means a dairy, cheese factory, creamery, cream receiving station, milk condensery, ice cream plant, process cheese plant, or skimming station or a combination of any two or more of them; (« usine de fabrication de produits laitiers ») "whey" means the serum portion of the milk separated from the milk coagulated during the manufacture of cheese or casein, and is considered to be a contaminant under the Act.
