Persons are prohibited from placing attractants for cervids in specified game hunting areas unless they first get written permission from the director.

W130 Regulation 209/2014 Registered August 18, 2014 bilingual version (HTML) WHEREAS the Supreme Court of Canada has recognized that the proper management and conservation of wildlife resources is a valid objective of government and is consistent with aboriginal beliefs and practices and with the enhancement of aboriginal rights; AND WHEREAS chronic wasting disease and bovine tuberculosis pose a serious threat to cervid populations in certain areas of the province and banning the placement of attractants for cervids in the areas of concern will help to prevent the spread of these diseases; M.R. 109/2021 ; 7/2022 THEREFORE the Minister of Conservation and Water Stewardship enacts the following: Definitions 1 The following definitions apply in this regulation. "cervid" means any member of a species or subspecies of the deer family (cervidae) . (« cervidé ») "director" means the person in the department with the title "Director of the Wildlife Branch". (« directeur ») "game hunting area" means a game hunting area designated under the Hunting Areas and Zones Regulation , Manitoba Regulation 220/86. (« zone de chasse au gibier ») Purpose 2 The purpose of this regulation is to prevent the spread of chronic wasting disease and bovine tuberculosis among cervids in certain areas of the province by prohibiting persons from placing items to attract cervids. M.R. 109/2021 ; 7/2022 Application 3 This regulation applies to all persons, including those persons who may exercise aboriginal rights or treaty rights or rights under paragraph 13 of the Memorandum of Agreement set out in The Manitoba Natural Resources Transfer Act . Cervid attractant restriction 4 No person shall place any thing or substance in game hunting area 5, 6, 6A, 11, 12, 13, 13A, 18, 18A, 18B, 18C, 23, 23A or 27 or the portion of game hunting area 22 west of Provincial Trunk Highway 83 for the purpose of luring or attracting cervids without first obtaining written permission from the director. 5 [Repealed] M.R. 109/2021 ; 7/2022
