This regulation replaces Schedule A and says certain close relatives may not marry.

M50 Regulation 255/91 Registered December 2, 1991 bilingual version (HTML) Schedule A of Act repealed and substituted 1 Pursuant to subsection 24(4) of The Marriage Act, Schedule A to the Act is repealed and the attached Schedule A is substituted. Coming into force 2 This regulation comes into force on December 18, 1991. SCHEDULE A (Section 24) Degrees of consanguinity which bar the lawful solemnization of marriage. A man may not marry his: Grandmother Mother Grand-daughter Daughter Sister A woman may not marry her: Grandfather Father Grandson Son Brother The relationships set forth in this Schedule include all such relationships, whether by the whole or half-blood or by order of adoption. Note: Sections 2 to 4 of the Marriage (Prohibited Degrees) Act, Statutes of Canada 1990, chapter 46 provide as follows: 2(1) Subject to subsection (2), persons related by consanguinity, affinity or adoption are not prohibited from marrying each other by reason only of their relationship. 2(2) No person shall marry another person if they are related. (a) lineally by consanguinity or adoption; (b) as brother and sister by consanguinity, whether by the whole blood or by the half-blood; or (c) as brother and sister by adoption. 3(1) Subject to subsection (2), a marriage between persons related by consanguinity, affinity or adoption is not invalid by reason only of their relationship. 3(2) A marriage between persons who are related in the manner described in paragraph 2(2) (a), (b) or (c) is void. 4 This Act contains all of the prohibitions in law in Canada against marriage by reason of the parties being related.
