Statute overview

About this statute

This Act gives people a right to request access to public-body records and correction of their personal information, and it sets deadlines, fees, notice steps, and privacy protections for public bodies. This part lets public bodies refuse disclosure of certain sensitive records, sets complaint and appeal time limits, and imposes personal-information handling rules. Public bodies can use or disclose personal information only for permitted purposes, and they must keep the amount used or disclosed to the minimum necessary. Post-secondary educational bodies get a specific fundraising rule, including notice and stopping use on request. The minister must send the Act to a committee for review within 5 years after commencement and every 5 years after that, and the committee must review Schedule A’s listed provisions.
