The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may make arrangements with the Government of Canada for the use or employment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Force or a portion of it in helping the administration of justice in the province and in carrying into effect the laws in force in the province, and may in the arrangements agree upon and determine the amount of money which shall be paid by the province in respect of the use or employment of the force. (1) From the date on which an arrangement referred to in section 2 is made (a) each member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Force stationed in the province under this arrangement shall have the powers possessed by or given to a member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, a constable or a ranger; (b) the Officer Commanding the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Force stationed in the province under this arrangement shall have the powers possessed by or given to the Chief of Police of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, by statute or otherwise. (2) The powers given by subsection (1) to each member and to the Officer Commanding may be exercised anywhere in the province in respect of every part of the province policed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Force in accordance with an arrangement made under section 2.
