SNL2024 CHAPTER C-29.2 CONFEDERATION 75 TH ANNIVERSARY RECOGNITION ACT CHAPTER C-29.2 AN ACT RESPECTING RECOGNITION OF THE 75 TH ANNIVERSARY OF CONFEDERATION (Assented to May 29, 2024) Analysis 1. Regulations Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows: Short title 1. This Act may be cited as the Confederation 75 th Anniversary Recognition Act . 2024 cC-29.2 s1 Back to Top Definitions 2. In this Act (a) "executive council" means t he executive council of the province; and (b) "provincial scholarship program" means a program administered by the Department of Education to award scholarships to secondary school students on the basis of academic achievement determined by the student’s scholarship score as calculated by the Department of Education. 2024 cC-29.2 s2 Back to Top Confederation 75 th Anniversary Medals 3. (1) The Confederation 75 th Anniversary Medal may be awarded to individuals who (a) have made a significant contribution to society; (b) are living at the time this Act comes into force; and (c) satisfy the other requirements that may be prescribed in the regulations. (2) The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may establish a committee to select individuals who may be awarded the Confederation 75 th Anniversary Medal. 2024 cC-29.2 s3 Back to Top Confederation 75 th Anniversary Scholarships 4. (1) The Confederation 75 th Anniversary Scholarship is established. (2) The Minister of the Department of Education may grant 75 Confederation 75 th Anniversary Scholarships to secondary school students in the province who (a) have achieved the highest scholarship scores in 2024; and (b) have not received another scholarship from the provincial scholarship program. (3) The value of each Confederation 75 th Anniversary Scholarship shall be $1,000. (4) Notwithstanding subsection (2), no more than 3 Confederation 75 th Anniversary Scholarships may be awarded in an electoral district. 2024 cC-29.2 s4 Back to Top Honorary members of executive council 5. (1) Every former member of the executive council who is living on the date this Act comes into force and every individual who becomes a former member of the executive council on or after the coming into force of this Act, is designated as an honorary member of the executive council. (2) An individual who is an honorary member of the executive council is not a member of the executive council for the purposes of the Executive Council Act or any other enactment that confers rights, obligations or privileges on members of the executive council. (3) Subject to subsection (4), an honorary member of the executive council may use the honorific and title set out in section 6. (4) Where a person who is designated as an honorary member of the executive council under this section is convicted of an offence that could have been prosecuted by way of indictment, the person immediately ceases to be an honorary member of the executive council and is disqualified from being designated as an honorary member again in the future. 2024 cC-29.2 s5 Back to Top Honorific and title 6. A member of the executive council, including an honorary member, may use (a) the honorific "The Honourable" before the member's name; and (b) the initials "E.C. The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may make regulations (a) prescribing additional requirements for the purposes of paragraph 3(1)(c ); (b) defining a word or phrase used but not defined in this Act; and (c) generally, to give effect to the purpose of this Act. 2024 cC-29.2 s7
