About this statute

This part sets out who the coroners are, how deaths must be reported, and how coroners investigate deaths and hold inquests. This provision sets out when the Chief Coroner or a coroner must, may, or must not conduct an inquest, and describes inquest procedure, jury selection, evidence, notice, and powers during the inquest. The Commissioner may make regulations if the Minister recommends them. The Supreme Court Rules apply to proceedings before a judge under this Act, and appeals from a judge’s decision are taken under the Court of Appeal rules.
