Statute overview

About this statute

This regulation sets who may prospect or stake claims, how licences and prospecting permits are issued, where mining activity is prohibited, and what reports and fees are required. This provision covers prospecting permits and claims: permits can be extended, grouped, or cancelled, and claims have filing, work, and recording requirements. This provision sets rules for reallocating excess work costs, issuing work certificates, claim grouping, lease applications and renewals, rent, cancellations, suspensions, and reduced-area claims. This provision covers cancelled claims and leases, when lands can be reopened, and how mine royalties are calculated and paid. Mine operators must file royalty returns, keep supporting records in Canada, and provide access for valuation and assessment. There are also rules for lessees, joint ventures, confidentiality, and restrictions on moving or altering precious stones before valuation.
