Non-resident commercial motor vehicles are generally exempt from registration in Prince Edward Island, except for intraprovincial pickup-and-delivery use. A Special Trip Permit can also support exemption, and it lasts for one entry and up to five days from the permit’s effective date.

H-5, Council made the following regulations: 1. Exemption (1) A commercial motor vehicle owned by a non-resident is exempt from registration in Prince Edward Island to the same extent as a commercial motor vehicle owned by a resident of Prince Edward Island would be exempt from registration if it were operating in like circumstances in the province, state, or territory in which the non-resident is resident. Idem (2) The exemption under subsection (1) does not apply to a commercial motor vehicle owned by a non-resident if the vehicle is used to pick up goods, wares, or merchandise from a point within the province for delivery to another point within the province. Permit (1) A commercial motor vehicle owned by a non-resident which is not exempt from registration under section 1 is exempt from registration if a Special Trip Permit is obtained and the vehicle is not used to pick up goods, wares, or merchandise from a point within the province for delivery to another point within the province. Idem effective, expiry dates (2) A Special Trip Permit shall be valid for one entrance into the province, and shall remain in force until the expiry of five days from the effective date shown on the permit.
