If you find any errors or omissions in this consolidation, please contact: Legislative Counsel Office Tel: (902) 368-4292 Email: legislation@gov.pe.ca PREAMBLE Down Syndrome Day Act Section 1 CHAPTER D-13.11 DOWN SYNDROME DAY ACT PREAMBLE WHEREAS Down syndrome is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been a part of the human condition, exists in all regions across the globe and commonly results in variable effects on learning styles, physical characteristics or health; AND WHEREAS the inherent dignity, worth and valuable contributions of persons with intellectual disabilities should be recognized as promoters of the well-being and diversity of their communities, and the importance of their individual autonomy and independence, including the freedom to make their own choices; AND WHEREAS it is important to take measures to raise awareness throughout society, including at the family level, regarding persons with Down syndrome; THEREFORE it is appropriate to establish a day to promote awareness about Down syndrome. 1.
