These regulations let a midwifery member prescribe, administer, possess, order, perform, and interpret certain listed drugs, diagnostic tests, and invasive procedures, subject to stated legal and licence conditions.

Interpretation 2 In these regulations, “Act” means The Midwifery Act. 20 Mar 2008 cM-14.1 Reg 1 s2. Drugs 3(1) Subject to the Act, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (Canada), The Drug Schedules Regulations, 1997, the bylaws and any terms and conditions set out in the member’s licence, a member may do any of the following, for a purpose that is within the scope of the practice of midwifery: (a) prescribe or administer a drug that is a member of any category of drugs set out in Table 1 of the Appendix; (b) administer a drug that is prescribed by a practitioner who is a member of any category of practitioners authorized to prescribe the drug; (c) prescribe, possess or administer a drug in accordance with the New Classes of Practitioners Regulations (Canada), SOR/2012-230. (2) Nothing in subsection (1) authorizes a member to perform an invasive procedure associated with the administration of a drug if that invasive procedure is not authorized pursuant to section 5. 20 Mar 2008 cM-14.1 Reg 1 s3; 19 Apr 2024 SR 20/2024 s3. Diagnostic tests 4 Subject to the Act, the bylaws and any terms and conditions set out in the member’s licence, a member may, for a purpose that is within the scope of the practice of midwifery, order, perform and interpret a diagnostic test that is: (a) set out in Table 2 of the Appendix; or (b) a member of a category of diagnostic tests set out in Table 2 of the Appendix. 20 Mar 2008 cM-14.1 Reg 1 s4. Invasive procedures 5 Subject to the Act, the bylaws and any terms and conditions set out in the member’s licence, a member may, for a purpose that is within the scope of the practice of midwifery, perform and interpret an invasive procedure that is: (a) set out in Table 3 of the Appendix; or (b) a member of a category of invasive procedures set out in Table 3 of the Appendix. 20 Mar 2008 cM-14.1 Reg 1 s5. 4 M-14.1 REG 1 MIDWIFERY Coming into force 6(1) Subject to subsection (2), these regulations come into force on the day on which section 23 of The Midwifery Act comes into force.
