Statute overview

About this statute

This part sets basic evidence rules for witnesses, spouses, experts, documents, and oaths in Yukon proceedings. This provision sets out how evidence may be given or challenged, including affirmations instead of oaths, evidence from children or people unable to speak, and rules for questioning witnesses about prior statements or convictions. This provision sets out how bank records, registered documents, wills, affidavits, hearsay statements, and some old or newspaper documents can be proved in evidence, including notice requirements and court controls. People ordered to attend or examined under this section have rights to compensation, to refuse certain answers, and to resist producing documents they could not be forced to produce at trial; the commissioner or other person may administer an oath or affirmation when directed.
