Kettles Regulations

Kettles Regulations His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Health, pursuant to section 37 of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Acta, makes the annexed Kettles Regulations. S.C. 2010, c. 21 Definition of kettle In these Regulations, kettle means a kettle for household use that releases lead into the water that is boiled in it. Maximum quantity of lead A kettle must not release more than 0.01 ppm lead when tested in accordance with the test method set out in the schedule. [Repeal] Registration These Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered. The following method is to be used for determining the quantity of lead that is released by a kettle: prepare the kettle for use in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions; place 1 L of distilled and deionized water in the kettle; heat and boil the water in the kettle, for a total of 15 minutes; and when the water has cooled to room temperature, measure the quantity of lead present in the water in terms of parts per million w/w, calculated on the basis of 1 L of water.
