Statute overview

About this statute

This Act regulates wrecks, abandoned or hazardous vessels, and salvage operations, and gives ministers powers to report on, mark, remove, and control dangerous vessels and wrecks. This part gives the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and enforcement officers powers to inspect, direct, detain, seize, and regulate vessels and wrecks, and it sets offences, violations, penalties, notices, reviews, and appeals. This provision gives rules for reporting hazardous wrecks, removing them, keeping related information confidential, and recovering costs, and it also sets out regulation-making powers and some immunities. The Minister of Justice must start independent reviews of remote proceedings in criminal justice matters within three years of royal assent and lay a report before Parliament within five years after each review starts.
