About this statute

This Act sets up Canada’s student loan and financial assistance system, including definitions, authority to designate institutions and make agreements, rules for interest and fees, loan forgiveness and deferrals, and enforcement measures. This segment gives the Minister powers to take repayment-related measures for certain false statements or misleading information, but only after 60 days’ notice and within six years of becoming aware of the issue. It also sets reporting duties for the Chief Actuary and the Minister, authorizes agreements with other public or private bodies, requires some payments from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, and creates temporary interest-free periods for certain borrowers.
