Statute overview

About this statute

This Act sets up Naskapi band governance: the band acts through its council, the council meets regularly, by-laws can be made on local matters, and certain transparency, conflict, posting, and election rules apply. This provision sets rules for election contests, band meetings, voting, budgets, borrowing, audits, financial records, and some land and access rights on Category IA-N land. This part lets the band grant, approve, register, restrict, and end certain rights in Category IA-N land and related buildings, and sets rules for cessions, superficies, compensation, the Commission, exemptions, and offences. This provision defines three terms and says references to one ministerial title should be read as references to another title, unless context requires otherwise.
