Statute overview

About this statute

This Part defines key terms and sets payment, contribution, interest, and recovery rules for contributors and the Minister. This provision sets rules for counting service toward pension benefits, making elections, paying required contributions, and in some cases stopping contributions after specified ages. This provision treats some service periods as if employment had ended or continued, limits seasonal employees from counting between-season time as pensionable service, and sets several evidence, medical, payment, and reporting rules for contributors and the Minister. This provision requires contributors to file proof of age when demanded by the Minister and sets consequences if they do not. It also sets contribution rules for leave without pay, rules for transfer value elections, and some Ministerial discretion to accept alternative evidence or extend time. A contributor may elect to pay for certain prior service, but the election must be in writing, dated and signed, and the required amount must be received by the Minister within the stated deadline or the election is void.
