About this statute

This law creates Colombia’s Ministry of Environment, reorganizes the public sector for environmental management and renewable natural resources, and organizes the National Environmental System (SINA). Este artículo fija principios generales de la política ambiental colombiana, incluyendo protección de la biodiversidad, prioridad del consumo humano en el agua, precaución ambiental y apoyo estatal a la gestión ambiental. El Ministerio del Medio Ambiente se crea y must formular la política ambiental, definir regulaciones y coordinar el SINA. This article defines sustainable development as economic growth, better quality of life, and social well-being, while not exhausting renewable natural resources or harming the environment or future generations’ ability to use it. El artículo define el Sistema Nacional Ambiental (SINA) y ordena al gobierno nacional reglamentar su organización y funcionamiento.
