Statute overview

About this statute

This law establishes the basic statute for political parties and movements and sets rules on campaign financing. This provision defines political parties and political movements, and says properly constituted parties and movements have legal personality. The National Electoral Council must recognize and grant legal personality to political parties and movements if they meet the listed requirements, and it must study the request within 30 business days. Political parties and movements lose legal personality if they fail to get at least 50,000 votes or maintain congressional representation, if their statutes require dissolution, or if the National Electoral Council declares it in the cases allowed by the law.
