La Corporación tiene por objeto actividades de navegación y puertos, tierras, energía y protección ambiental y de recursos naturales. Cormagdalena has jurisdiction over the river-adjacent municipalities listed in the article, including Canal del Dique municipalities and Puerto Colombia. Cormagdalena has authority to coordinate and supervise hydrological planning and integrated management of the Río Magdalena, and it must coordinate related regional environmental activities and take part in policy and regulatory harmonization.
