Statute overview

About this statute

This preamble says Colombia approves the 1907 Convention for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes. Las Naciones contratantes deben emplear todos sus esfuerzos para asegurar el arreglo pacífico de conflictos internacionales. If there is a serious disagreement or conflict, the contracting States should resort to the good offices or mediation of one or more friendly nations before appealing to arms, as far as circumstances allow. States outside the conflict may offer good offices or mediation to the parties in conflict. The mediator’s role is to reconcile opposing claims and calm tensions that may arise between conflicting nations.
