About this statute
This is the preamble of Law 273 of 1996, stating that Congress of Colombia decrees changes to the Congressional Regulation on the trial of high-ranking officials. The President of the Commission of Investigation and Accusation must distribute the complaint or accusation among commission members within 2 days, may appoint up to three investigators for a specific matter, and must name one of them as coordinator; the investigator(s) must then summon the complainant or accuser within 2 days to confirm the complaint under oath. Investigations about the President of the Republic are public, the relevant deliberations are public too, evidence practice follows the criminal procedure rules, and testimony with identity reserved may not be transferred. La Comisión debe remitir el asunto al Presidente de la Cámara al día siguiente de aprobarse el proyecto; luego la Cámara debe reunirse y decidir en los plazos indicados. If the accusation is admitted or a cessation of procedure is reversed on appeal, the trial begins.
