Statute overview

About this statute

This preamble says Colombia approved the Convention on obtaining alimony/support abroad, and explains the humanitarian and practical problems it is meant to address. This article says the convention is meant to help a person in one contracting party seek maintenance from another person under another contracting party’s jurisdiction, using forwarding and intermediary authorities. The sending authority must transmit the documents to the intermediary institution of the defendant State, check that they meet the formal requirements of the requesting State’s law, and it may also share its view on the merits and recommend free legal aid and exemption from costs.
