Ley 580 de 2000

This law states that Colombia’s values, national symbols, and native cultural expressions are exalted, and it establishes July 15 to August 15 each year as the month of the homeland.

En cada distrito y municipio debe existir un comité sobre valores, símbolos y manifestaciones culturales autóctonas colombianas, integrado por autoridades locales, educación, policía, fuerzas armadas y un representante cívico.

This article says that, during this month, contests, workshops, meetings, and conferences about national folklore and cultural expressions will be held and awarded throughout the country.

Nationwide exhibitions and conferences will be carried out and awarded on ecology, natural resources, maritime and river reserves, agricultural and industrial products, handicrafts, and archaeological wealth.

This article says the State will exalt and promote knowledge of people and values that stand out in science, literature, art, sport, culture, and defense of the Spanish language in Colombia.

Los alumnos, docentes y directivos de los establecimientos educativos deben participar en la organización, programación y ejecución de esos actos; además, la entrada al público será gratuita.

Official radio and audiovisual media must spend at least one hour each day this month promoting and publicizing the scheduled events, and museums, national monuments, and cultural centers must allow free entry on the last Sunday of each month and on July 20 and August 7 each year.

If the law is not complied with, the respective officials will be subject to disciplinary sanctions.

This law takes effect on the date it is promulgated.
