About this statute
This provision is the preamble of Law 700 of 2001, which states that the Congress of Colombia decrees measures to improve the living conditions of pensioners and other provisions. The law aims to speed up payment of pension installments to pensioners of public and private entities, and to make collecting those payments easier for beneficiaries. El artículo obliga a los operadores de pensiones a consignar la mesada en cuentas individuales elegidas por el pensionado y limita quién puede manejar o debitar esas cuentas. Public officials and private pension-fund staff may not, without just cause, refuse, delay, or deny payment of pension installments to beneficiaries. Pension and severance administrators must process the steps needed to pay the corresponding amounts within six months after the interested person requests recognition.
