Statute overview

About this statute

Esta ley dice que se prohíbe la comercialización de componentes anatómicos humanos para trasplante y que su tráfico se tipifica como delito. Organ and tissue donations must be made for humanitarian reasons and without payment; authorized transplant-related institutions may charge specified costs. The article bans trafficking, buying, selling, or commercializing human anatomical components, biological samples, and related information, and sets prison terms and fines for related conduct. Certain anatomical component banks and transplant centers may be closed permanently if they take part in extraction or transplant activities that violate this law and Law 73 of 1988. The law takes effect when it is promulgated and repeals conflicting rules.
