This preamble states the Convention’s purpose: to prevent and fight corruption through international cooperation. La Convención se aplica a la prevención, investigación y enjuiciamiento de la corrupción, y al embargo preventivo, incautación, decomiso y restitución del producto de delitos tipificados por la Convención. Los Estados Parte deben cumplir la Convención respetando la igualdad soberana, la integridad territorial y la no intervención; además, no pueden ejercer en otro Estado funciones o jurisdicción reservadas a sus autoridades.
